Presidential Address

      Dear Colleagues!
May is here again, perhaps the most beautiful month of the year, when – for more than fifty
years – Hungarian and international representatives of cardiology meet in Balatonfüred for
the Congress of the Hungarian Society of Cardiology.
Cardiologists have remained faithful to Balatonfüred, the "Mecca for heart patients". This
year, however, we are facing a major change, as the new Balatonfüred Congress Centre,
finished last year, will be the venue of the event. We are happy to be here and very much
looking forward to holding our congress in this 21st-century environment with modern tech-
nology and spacious halls. We hope that the new setting will provide an even higher level of
quality, with as few disruptions as possible.
The grand opening will take place on Wednesday afternoon, the first day of the Congress this
year as well. We will present the prizes awarded by the scientific committee, the medals of
the Hungarian Society of Cardiology, and welcome several distinguished speakers from ab-
road as our new honorary members. This year Domenico Corrado (Sudden Cardiac Death in
Athletes), Helmut Pürerfellner (Management of Atrial Fibrillation in 2030), Tamás Alexy (Heart
Transplantation in the USA), Jacek Legutko (Coronary Intervention), Anastazija Stojsic (Stress
Echocardiography), Filippo Crea (Unified New Nomenclature for Ischemic Heart Disease) will
receive the Society’s Pro Merito Award as our new honorary members. You will be able to
hear their presentations first-hand at the Congress. Furthermore, it is our pleasure to welco-
me again Jeroen Bax, former President of the European Society of Cardiology, who will join
us to discuss the topic of tricuspid valve regurgitation. The Opening Ceremony will close with
a concert by the Gárdonyi Zoltán from the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Veszprém.
This year we received a record number of abstracts, as more than 200 topics were sub-
mitted. Our colleagues will have the opportunity to showcase their work through pre-
sentations and electronic posters as well. Moreover, each working group is preparing
thematic sessions, while the ESC&HSC joint symposium will be certainly be a highlight
of the Congress. The new venue will allow for new types of inter-
      active presentations on stage, too.
The Congress Program Editor, which will debut this year in the HSC
Application, will help you to select your favored events and put
together your own calendar. If you have not
downloaded the app yet, you can do it right now!
We hope that everyone will find several scientific talks to their liking,
and that there will be plenty of opportunities for discussion and
      relaxation as well.
                                                               Dávid Becker, MD, PhD,
We wish you all a pleasant and enjoyable 2024 Congress! FESC
                                                              President of the Hungarian
                                                               Society of Cardiology
